How to check my phone's conditions?

If you're away from home, your smartphone might display inaccurate information about your current location. The phone might say it's in a different country or city, even if you're only at home. With one of these apps, you can check your phone's actual location and conditions. This will confirm whether the location settings are accurate.

Google: Check whether your phone is accurately tracking you

Google Maps is generally the best location-tracking app to use. It uses your GPS to determine where you are at all times.

Type in your full name, phone number, city, and a description of where you are in your current location and you'll see the location you are tracking. If you have your phone's location switched on, Google will also show you your exact location on a map.

Google Maps will also save the exact location of your phone in your Google account, so you can access it by typing in your password.

The app is free for up to three devices and has more than 100 million users.

iOS: Find your phone

Once you have downloaded the app on your iOS device, you can track your phone.

Press the button and hold the screen on your phone. If you see a camera icon, you've checked that you're tracking the correct device.

You can keep checking your phone's location in the app until you've connected the correct device or the app automatically disconnects.

Android: Find your phone

When you launch the Find My Device app on your Android device, you'll see the option to make your phone show you its location, as well as access settings for that device.

If you haven't connected your phone to your account, you won't see this option.

Google: Tell Google you're lost

If you have a situation where you're worried that you may have gone to far from home and your phone has gone off track, it's better to find your phone yourself. When you're about to get to the bus, for example, you can send a text to your phone to ask Google to show you your location.
